Breed Overview
Bernese Mountain Dogs are large, gentle dogs known for their calm, sweet nature. They’re friendly, loyal, and happiest when they’re close to their people. With their sturdy build and soft expression, they make wonderful companions in a loving home that’s ready for a big dog.
Care & Exercise
Berners need regular walks and some playtime to stay healthy, but they don’t need intense exercise. A fenced yard is helpful, but not required if they get regular outings. Their thick coat should be brushed to manage shedding and keep it clean, and they should be kept at a healthy weight to protect their joints.
- Moderate daily exercise
- Fenced yard preferred
- Frequent coat brushing
- Joint health management

Living with a Bernese
Bernese Mountain Dogs are loyal, people oriented family dogs who usually do very well with children when raised properly. They prefer being indoors with the family, not left alone outside for long periods. They do best in a good, loving home that can offer them time, attention, and space for a large, gentle companion.
